A police unit in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan caught eleven unmarried couples for being intimate outside of wedlock during a 'social disease' raid in several hotels throughout the holy month of Ramadhan.

"The couples could not prove that they were husband and wife so we detained them and brought them to the station," Banjarmasin Sabhara Police Adj. Comr. Syaiful Bob said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Mostly teenagers were netted in the raids, he added. The couples were taken to the police station where they were given counseling and made to sign statements saying that they would not repeat the offense.
The police will continue to conduct raids on hotels in response to a number of reports regarding teenagers engaged in immoral conduct during Ramadhan, Syaiful said, adding that the raids were part of efforts to create a conducive atmosphere ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday. (liz/rin)
