Ahok wants to dispell doubt over 1 million pledged supporters

Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has met with a group of volunteers under the banner of Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok) to discuss further strategies for the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, especially to verify that 1 million people have pledged support for Ahok through the group.
Teman Ahok collected more than 1 million copies of ID cards as of June 19 in a bid to support Ahok's independent candidacy in next year's regional election. However, Ahok and the group noticed doubts raised by his opponents over the validity of the ID cards and plan to prove them wrong.
Teman Ahok will recap the 1 million pledges before publicly announcing it to public, Ahok said on Monday.
"They [Teman Ahok] say they want to make the recap up to the neighborhood unit. Then they will invite those who doubt the 1 million claim," he said as quoted by kompas.com.
During verification, Teman Ahok will invite these people to randomly pick an ID of a pledged supporter. At the same time, Teman Ahok will conduct direct verification of the chosen ID cards by asking the owner of the ID directly.
Several politicians like Gerindra Party's Habiburrokhman and the United Development Party's (PPP) Abraham Lunggana have publicly slammed Teman Ahok and questioned the 1 million claim. (rin)
