udges at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday issued their interlocutory decision, allowing the trial against murder suspect Jessica Kumala Wongso to continue and rejecting all defense arguments put forth by Jessica's lawyers, who demanded the judges stop the trial.
“The court rejects all demurrers made by the lawyers of the defendant. Therefore, the trial will continue,” said presiding judge Kusworo during the hearing, adding that the prosecutors were requested to elaborate on their evidence and present witnesses.
In the previous hearing, Jessica’s lawyer Otto Hasibuan told the judge to stop the trial because the indictment prepared by the prosecutors had been haphazardly drafted and was incomplete, unclear and inaccurate.
Jessica is accused of murdering Wayan Mirna Salihin by dosing her iced coffee with cyanide when they and another friend shared a table at Olivier café in Central Jakarta on Jun. 6. But Otto said the prosecutors had failed to prove that Jessica had spiked Mirna’s iced coffee or that Jessica had ever been in possession of cyanide.
Judge Kusworo said the next hearing would be held on July 12, after the celebration of the Idul Fitri Islamic holiday that will fall on July 6. (bbn)
