amily members of Wayan Mirna Salihin -- her father Darmawan Salihin, her husband Arief Soemarko and her twin sibling Sandy Salihin – will appear as witnesses for the prosecution during the murder trial in which Jessica Kumala Wongso stands accused of killing Mirna.

Their testimonies will only be used as background information, said Otto Hasibuan,  Jessica’s lawyer, emphasizing that the witnesses had not been at Olivier café when Mirna was allegedly poisoned with cyanide-tainted coffee.

"The witnesses won't be able to give direct evidence before the trial. Anything they say can only be considered as background information,” Otto said while waiting for the trial to kick-off again at Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.

According to Otto, his team will wait to see if prosecutors can prove that Jessica added the cyanide to Mirna's coffee cup. If they cannot, Otto said that prosecutors would fail to prove that his client had murdered Mirna.

Mirna died on Jan 6, having consumed a cyanide-tainted coffee during a meeting with Jessica and another friend at Olivier café in Central Jakarta. (bbn)
