“We want political parties to nominate him and Teman Ahok [to maintain their support]. We will talk about everything,” Idrus said in Jakarta on Thursday as reported by tribunnews.com.
Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok) is the incumbent’s support group, which says its volunteers have collected 1 million vote-pledges from Jakartans, far more than the 532,000 expressions of voter support required by law for a candidate to run independently.
Idrus said he expressed his party’s wishes when he met with Ahok at City Hall on Wednesday.
So far, three political parties — the Golkar Party, NasDem Party and Hanura Party — have expressed their support for Ahok’s bid to seek reelection in the 2017 election. The three have 24 combined seats in the City Council, more than enough to nominate a gubernatorial candidate.
Even if Ahok is nominated by a political party, Teman Ahok will remain an important element in supporting him to win the election, Idrus added. (bbn)
