akarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama has warned Jakartans to remain careful on the road amid the Pokémon Go frenzy sweeping the globe, Indonesia included.
"We just want the gamers to be careful by not playing while driving, as doing so could cause accidents," Ahok told journalists at City Hall on Thursday.
Responding to the trend, the government has urged gamers to play safely and even welcomed gamers to "catch" Pokémon at City Hall. He also suggested that people enjoy playing the Pokemon mania in the open field like the National Monument (Monas).
"From what I heard, there are a lot of Pokémon in Monas. It’s actually good if people can play in the garden,” he said commenting on the animated monsters.
In the game, developed by Niantic Lab, players will be able to catch Pokémon characters in real locations by using a smartphone camera and GPS. The game is available for free on both Android and iOS devices. Pokemon Go was officially launched in the US, Australia and New Zealand last week and will be officially launched in Europe and Asia, including Indonesia, in the near future. (rin)
