nlike regular public transportation modes, mobile-app-based taxis and cars will have to abide by the odd-even license plate policy to be tried out from July 27 to August 28.
Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah said on Monday the policy would not affect taxis, buses or bajaj (three-wheeled motorized vehicles).
Andri said, however, that cars operated by mobile app companies such as Grab and Uber would have to obey the new regulation to be applied on Jl. Sudirman, Jl. MH Thamrin, both in Central Jakarta and Jl. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta. “The reason is because their plates are for private cars, not public transportation,” he said, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Andri said the app-based taxis could not be categorized as public transportation although their vehicles were registered and the companies had permits.
The trial of the odd-even license plate policy will be conducted for one month from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., before the city administration and the police decide whether to enforce it permanently.
