akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama will testify against corruption suspect, former Agung Podomoro Land (APL) president director Ariesman Widjaja, at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday evening.

“I was summoned by prosecutors to appear as a witness at the court. I will just say what I know and what I have heard,” Ahok said at City Hall on Monday, adding that he would not prepare any specific testimony for the court.

Ariesman surrendered himself to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after the anticorruption body arrested Muhammad Sanusi, a city councillor, in late March after the latter allegedly received a bribe from APL in connection with the city council’s deliberation of two reclamation bills.

The case is allegedly related to the company’s efforts to reduce the additional contribution from developers of reclaimed islets in Jakarta Bay from 15 percent to only 5 percent, a detail that was expected to be included in one of the bylaws.

City Council halted the deliberation of the two bills after the arrest of Sanusi.

One of Ahok’s staff members, Sunny Tanuwidjaja, is also scheduled to appear as a witness on Monday. (bbn)
