n observer has said the Cabinet shake-up announced on Wednesday aims to reaffirm President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's vision and mission for the remainder of his term, as lack of coordination among ministers had slowed down the first two years of his leadership.
Muradi, a political, defense and security analyst with the University of Padjadjaran in Bandung, West Java, said the Cabinet reshuffle was not an easy task because there were effectively only two years left for the Jokowi administration, during which most of the remaining time would be used for preparations for the legislative and presidential elections.
Therefore, the analyst said, the new ministers should be able to take measures to affirm whether the government agenda would be effective and to implement all government programs to meet public expectation.
"The names appointed by Jokowi should be able to bridge political interests and public expectations," Muradi said.
On Wednesday, President Jokowi appointed 12 new ministers in the second Cabinet reshuffle since he took office. In his remarks, President Jokowi said he wanted the new Cabinet to work solidly.
“The spirit of the Working Cabinet reshuffle is to strengthen the government’s performance,” said Jokowi in a press conference after the announcement of the Cabinet reshuffle at the State Palace in Jakarta. (ebf)
