akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil and Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini are the most recommended figures to take part in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, a survey has said.
Surveyors with the political psychology lab of the University of Indonesia interviewed 206 scholars and journalists about people they would recommend for Jakarta governor.
The survey took place from June 13 to July 28.
According to survey results, 79.47 percent of the respondents recommend Ahok, 38.88 percent recommend Ridwan and 38.67 Risma.
“During the survey, we invited the respondents, who have good analytical skills to assess the names who may have the opportunity to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial election,” lab chairman Hamdi Muluk told journalists when revealing the survey results in Jakarta on Monday.
Meanwhile, according to the survey, former law and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra is the most un-recommended figure with 43.8 percent of the respondents not recommending him as a Jakarta gubernatorial candidate.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) deputy chairman Andreas Hugo Pareira said his party would consider the results of the survey in its nomination of a candidate for Jakarta governor.
Ahok and Risma could potentially win the election, Andreas said. “Both Risma and Ahok have shown their capabilities. However, Risma has better communication skills,” Andreas said in the discussion.
Risma would be Ahok’s strongest opponent if the PDI-P nominated her as its gubernatorial candidate, he added. (rez/bbn)
