akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has expressed the city’s wish to share in the benefits of funds repatriated as a result of the recently introduced tax amnesty, particularly to help fund infrastructure development.
After a meeting with the city administration on Monday, the chief representative of Bank Indonesia’s Jakarta branch, Doni Primato Joewono, said the repatriated funds would increase banking liquidity and thereby help banks provide loans at lower interest rates.
In the meeting, Ahok had requested that city-owned property developer PT Jakarta Propertindo receive some of the repatriated funds from banks to build infrastructure in Jakarta, Doni added.
“If it is necessary, city-owned Bank DKI can also issue obligations to directly absorb the repatriated funds to drive economic growth,” Doni said at City Hall on Monday.
The House of Representatives has approved the Tax Amnesty Law and the government has started to introduce the program to the public. The government expects to repatriate Rp 1 quadrillion (US$76.5 billion) of Indonesians assets from other countries. (bbn)
