T

he Jakarta Administration is on the process to eliminate building and land acquisition taxes for the houses worth below Rp 2 billion (US$152,555) in a bid to lure consumers to buy property.

“To revive the transaction in property sector, we want to help the future consumers of houses by eliminating the taxes. For the last four months, the property business has been sluggish,” Jakarta Administration secretary Saefullah said at City Hall on Friday

The tax elimination will also apply to the apartment, whose prices are below Rp 2 billion.

On a meeting between Jakarta governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil on Thursday, Sofyan has agreed with Ahok’s plan to free the taxes for the houses under Rp 2 billion.

The ministry also promises to facilitate residents to apply for land certificate cost only Rp 300,000. With the cooperation between the administration and the ministry, Ahok hopes all residents can certify their properties.

However, the city has not decided when the governor regulation about the elimination of the taxes will be issued and implemented. Saefullah said that the city is still seeking input from other institutions like the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP), Tax Directorate, and Finance Ministry.
