T

he Communications and Information Ministry has said Google representatives had promised to deliver a protest from the Jakarta Police that there were a lot of “Poké stops” at police headquarters to Niantic Inc., the Pokémon Go developer.

Acting Communications and Information Ministry spokesman Noor Ihza said on Friday that the ministry met with Google representatives on Wednesday to talk about Pokémon Go game following protests.

“Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara has told Google about the concerns of some government offices about the game, especially those that have prohibited employees from playing it while working,” Noor told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Rudiantara also told Google that the government was concerned that the game might target the vital installations and facilities, Noor said.

“Places like military bases, refineries and nuclear plants cannot be disrupted at all by the game. Later, Google and Niantic will identify Pokémon monster spots by considering Rudiantara’s request,” Noor said.

Previously, Jakarta Police spokesman Sr.Comr. Awi Setiono said the police planned to send a warning letter to Niantic because there were a lot of Poké stops at Jakarta Police headquarters. The letter was to be sent through the Communications and Information Ministry.

“There are a lot of Poké stops at the police complex. This is not right because there are a lot of confidential information here that can’t be accessed easily by the public,” Awi said. (bbn)
