olkar chairman Setya Novanto has donated Rp 100 million (US$7,500) to the campaign team of Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama.
“Pak Nusron [Nusron Wahid, the head of campaign team] asked me how much do you want to donate? I said, here’s a hundred million rupiah, if you need more, just ask,” said Novanto as quoted by kompas.com during the opening of the team’s headquarters, Rumah Lembang, on Thursday evening.
Volunteers and Ahok’s supporters present at the ceremony cheered Novanto.
Novanto said his party supported Ahok because “Ahok does not only make promises, but also fulfills them.”
“Ahok turns slum areas into healthy neighborhoods. Ahok has been doing something good for the public,” Novanto said.
Besides non-party volunteers, politicians from three parties supporting Ahok—the Golkar, Nasdem, and Hanura parties—attended the ceremony, among them were Yorrys Raweyai, Wibi Andrino, Fayakhun, and Mohamad Sangaji, respectively. (evi)
