legislator from the Democratic Party has called on the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) to strengthen supervision and provide information on registered drugs to respond to the growing sale of herbal medicines sold through online platforms.
"There should be an official website that lists the names of drugs and whether they have been registered or not. There are many drugs sold online such as tonics and herbal medicines, but there is no information on whether the products are safe," said Dede Yusuf, head of House Commission IX overseeing health and manpower affairs, on Saturday.
BPOM chairwoman Penny K. Lukito said consumers could access the agency's website at www.pom.go.id for information on registered foodstuffs and drugs.
The BPOM wants to promote the website to the public in order to raise awareness on consumer product safety in response to recent discoveries of fake vaccines and fake medicines sold freely throughout the country. Besides the website, the public can also contact BPOM's toll-free number to gather more information on 1500533. (wnd/rin)
