ast Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) terrorist group leader Basri, alias Bagong, and his wife, Nurmi Usman, alias Oma, arrived at the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Palu, Central Sulawesi, to undergo  health examinations, a counterterrorism official said on Wednesday.

Operation Tinombala task force spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. Hari Suprapto said Basri arrived at the police hospital under a tight escort of the task force’s second division led by Adj. Sr. Comr. Guruh Arif Darmawan at 4:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Hari said apart from Basri and his wife, the Tinombala force also pursued a man suspected to be Sobron, a senior MIT  figure. “However, he managed to escape," Hari explained.

Basri was arrested in Tangkura village, South Poso Pesisir, at around 9:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

Basri was second in command after Santoso, aka Abu Wardah, who was shot dead in an ambush on July 18.

Throughout 2002-2006, Basri joined terror group Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) Tanah Runtuh in Poso city and attended tadrib asykari (military training) in 2003.

Hari said Basri was involved in a number of crimes, including the shooting of Rev. Susianti Tinulele at Efatha Church in Palu in 2003 and the murder of a woman in Maranata village, Sigi regency. He was involved in a robbery of a jewelry store at Tua Market in Palu in 2004 and the murder and mutilation of three students at SMU Kristen Poso in 2005.(ebf)
