mid reports that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will nominate its own candidate in the 2017 gubernatorial election, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Basuki Tjahaja Purnama still expresses hope he will get the party’s support.
“If Djarot is suitable to pair with me, the PDI-P should put us on a ticket,” Ahok said at City Hall in Jakarta on Friday, referring his current deputy governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, as reported by tribunnews.com.
Ahok has been supported by three political parties – the Golkar Party, the Gerindra Party and the Hanura Party -- while the PDI-P, the largest political party in the city, has not announced its candidate. According to one of its politicians, the party will nominate its own candidate.
In a survey by Poltracking announced on Thursday, Ahok’s electability is still highest at 40.77 percent, followed by Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini with 13.85 percent, Sandiaga with 9.23 percent and former culture and education minister Anies Baswedan with 9.23 percent.
But if Risma and Anies pair up to go against Ahok and Jakarta Financial and Asset Management Board head Heru Budi Hartono, the result is 37.95 percent and 35.64 percent, while in a head-to-head scenario between Risma-Sandiaga and Ahok-Heru, the result is 38.21 percent and 24.87 percent.
Ahok-Djarot could win against the pair of former law and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra-Sandiaga with a result of 44.62 percent and 14.86 percent. (bbn)
