akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat will register with the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) on Wednesday afternoon.

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to accompany the pair to the headquarters of the KPU along with representatives from the Golkar Party, the Hanura Party and the NasDem Party.

They plan to arrive at the headquarters at 1 p.m.

“We will take a bus to the KPU so that we will not cause traffic jams. If Ibu Megawati wants to accompany us, we will pick her up first,” Ahok said at City Hall on Wednesday.

Ahok said he had prepared the appropriate documents for the registration process, including a statement of his readiness to take leave if necessary.

However, Ahok said he hoped the Constitutional Court (MK) would allow him to refrain from taking leave. Ahok submitted a judicial review to demand a revision to the requirement in the Regional Elections Law that incumbents must take leave during election campaigns.

“We are still waiting for the court’s decision on this matter,” Ahok said. (bbn)
