President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has instructed his Cabinet to focus budget spending on social protection and productivity.
"Our spending priorities must include infrastructure development, social protection, fiscal decentralization and subsidies that are well-targeted," Jokowi said in his opening remarks at a limited Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Friday afternoon.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani were among those attending the meeting, which discussed state budget items.
Jokowi asserted that the state budget should encourage efficiency and spending that could increase the country’s fiscal room. (ebf)
