akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has denied claims he pays buzzers to help boost his image in social media and news portals.

“They act independently. I have learned that their actions are similar to what happened in the past,” he was quoted by tribunnews.com. as saying, referring to the situation prior to the 2012 gubernatorial election in which the Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Ahok ticket emerged victorious.

He also denied paying buzzers to help him and Jokowi win the 2012 election.

Based on a survey conducted by PoliticaWave.com that observed social media discourse from Sept 23 to Oct. 3, there were 243,859 conversations related to the gubernatorial election on social media: 146,460 conversations about Ahok-Djarot Saiful Hidayat, 62,584 about Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno and 34,815 about Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni.

Meanwhile, positive comments about the Ahok-Djarot ticket reached 7,078, Anies-Sandiaga 2,981 and Agus-Sylviana 6,207.

Ahok declined to comment on the result of the survey. “Ask the observers. I don’t understand it. It is better that I just do my job,” he added. (bbn)
