T

he Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) on Tuesday determined the serial numbers for the three pairs of candidates running in the 2017 Jakarta election.

The numbers were set after the candidates for governor picked random numbers provided by the KPU during it plenary meeting on Tuesday.

Governor candidate Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and deputy governor candidate Sylviana Murni got number 1, Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat got number 2, while Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno are number 3.

"The raffle will be the best number for each candidate, which has been granted by Allah," Jakarta KPU head Sumarno said at Hall D of JIEXPO, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

After the drawing of the serial number, Sumarno and the candidates signed the minutes of meeting about the candidates' serial numbers.

The number will shape the campaign motto and slogans of each candidate and although some consider number 1 as a favorite, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla's team managed to make the number 2 an exemplary part of their successful 2014 presidential election campaign, especially with a popular jingle, "Salam Dua Jari" (Two Finger Salute).
