The Presidential Office announced on Thursday the passing of Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi’s father, Moch Sidik.

“Bapak Moch Sidik, the father of Retno LP Marsudi, has passed away in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday,” the office said in a statement.

The deceased is currently being laid for final respects at his private residence in Manyaran, Semarang.

The news of his passing emerged only a day after Retno was occupied by talks with her visiting Australian counterpart, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

Together with State Secretary Pratikno, the minister accompanied President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, to meet with Bishop to discuss a range of Indonesia-Australia partnerships at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The bilateral meeting covered several areas, including terrorism prevention, law enforcement, and intelligence sharing, as well as trade and investment. (ebf)
