akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama spent his first day of election-campaign leave on Friday taking his son Nicholas Sean Purnama to university.
Nicholas just started college in August at the prestigious University of Indonesia in Depok, West Java.
Ahok said on Saturday that he drove his son from their house in Pantai Mutiara in Pluit, North Jakarta, to Depok, adding that he wanted to boost his son’s spirits.
“My son would surely be shocked, riding the commuter train, looking for an apartment. [So I thought] I have to boost his spirits. I’ll take you to the university, I will drive you myself,” Ahok said after an event in Cilandak, South Jakarta on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said he would take drive his son just once and next time he wanted Nicholas to be independent.
“[I told him] this is a car for you. You have to be brave enough to drive from Depok to Pluit,” he said.
Ahok’s four-month mandatory leave for the campaign period runs from Oct. 28 to Feb. 11, 2017. (evi)
