he National Police are scheduled to hold their first public expose on the investigation of a religious blasphemy case implicating Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja "Ahok" Purnama next week.
The police’s policy analyst Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said Monday that the case expose would be broadcast live for transparency.
“The case expose will be open for public viewing to show the legal processes of Pak Ahok's case are accountable," Rikwanto said after a nine-hour closed door questioning of the governor at the National Police headquarters in South Jakarta.
“We also want to avoid suspicion of any of the investigators in charge of handling the case so that the final result will be accepted by all parties," he added.
National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian previously stated that the case expose on Ahok’s alleged defamation was set open for the public based on President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's instruction, following a large-scale demonstration by Islamic organizations in Jakarta on Nov. 4. At the rally, they demanded legal prosecution of Ahok over his alleged blasphemous remarks during his working visit to Thousand Islands regency on Sept. 27. (ebf)
