group of people reported House of Representatives deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) on Wednesday for allegedly lodging attacks at the government during his speech at a large-scale rally on Nov.4.
Speaking on behalf of the group, President’s Volunteer Forum (Bara JP) head Birgaldo Sinaga said Fahri failed in his role as a House deputy speaker when he made hateful remarks and called for the impeachment of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“In his speech, Fahri said there were two ways Jokowi could be impeached, through the legislature or through the ‘street legislature’. His speech was responded to enthusiastically by protesters, who shouted repeatedly, ‘impeach Jokowi’,” he said at the Bareskrim in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Birgaldo further said Fahri allowed protesters to occupy the House despite rallies only being permitted to run until 6 p.m.
Bara JP reported Fahri on allegations of violating articles 110 and 160 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), which carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
“Bareskrim shall act firmly toward Fahri because his speech was dangerous to this country," Birgaldo said.
Thousands of people staged a rally against inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama on Nov.4. The rally ran peacefully until the evening, when violence erupted. (ebf)
