nactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has revealed that the ongoing renovations of the historical Banteng Square in Central Jakarta has been financed by the restaurant chain McDonald’s.
“We are renovating the soccer field [part of Banteng square] to an international standard,” Ahok said during a visit to kompas.com's office on Tuesday.
Kompas.com reported on Thursday that the soccer field would be made from synthetic grass and have a water installation system to make cleaning the field easier.

Without mentioning the amount of funding needed for the renovation, Ahok said McDonald’s would use its corporate social responsibility funds to support the project.
“McDonald’s only want their “M” logo to be put on the basketball court [near the soccer field],” he claimed.
Ahok earlier uploaded a video on the planned renovation of the Banteng soccer field, which was built during the Dutch colonial in 19th century and initially named Waterloo Square.
Similarly, the Coca-Cola company had financed the development of a basketball court in the eastern part of the National Monument (Monas) complex in Central Jakarta. The company put its logo and painted the field mostly red.
Besides public parks, many private companies finance other projects in the capital, such as low-cost apartments and roads. (jun)
