he police have decided not to detain Buni Yani, who uploaded edited footage of Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama citing a Quranic verse, after naming him a suspect on Wednesday evening.
"We decide not to detain him because Buni was cooperative during questioning and answered all of the questions," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said at a press conference on Thursday.

Awi also said there was no risk that Buni, a university lecturer, would destroy evidence because the police were in possession of all materials related to the case, including his mobile phone, copies of his email and Facebook accounts and screen shots of his Facebook status.
Buni has been prohibited from leaving the country for the next 60 days to prevent him from avoiding investigation, Awi said.
Awi said Buni had been charged under Article 28 paragraph 2 of the Electronic Information and Transactions law (UU ITE) on spreading information to incite hatred, which carried a maximum sentence of six years in prison. (jun)
