P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo intends to promote the tax amnesty to get optimum results by the end of its second phase in December.

Jokowi said he would visit several cities, starting with Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Friday next week to promote the tax amnesty and explain the many opportunities for taxpayers who failed to declare their assets during the first phase of the amnesty, which ran until the end of September.

"As Indonesians usually register for something in the very last week, I will turn up the heat once again," he said at Kompas 100 CEO forum in Jakarta on Thursday.

Jokowi added that the government would focus on disseminating information on the tax amnesty to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the third phase, which would run from January to March.

On the same occasion, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati called on directors of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and major companies to register for the tax amnesty.

"For corporate directors, go to the tax office and submit your tax forms. You have a lot of money, the fee is nothing for you, come on," she said.

As of Nov. 24, Rp 3.81 quadrillion worth of assets had been declared, Rp 143 trillion of which had been repatriated. Penalty fees on declarations paid reached Rp 94.85 trillion.(fac/jun)
