T

he National Police have arrested 24-year-old farmer Rio Priatna, from Majalengka in West Java, for allegedly producing materials to make high explosives.

National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that Rio, who was suspected to have links to a terrorist group led by Bahrun Naim, had received orders from Sumatra, Java and Nusa Tenggara to make explosive materials.

"Those groups aimed to attack the House of Representatives, the National Police office, the Mobile Brigade command headquarters in Kelapa Dua, foreign embassies, certain television stations, religious places and cafes," Rikwanto said during a press conference on Friday.

Rikwanto added that the police were still searching for the groups believed to have ordered materials from Rio.

During interrogations, Rio reportedly said he had not finished making any bombs and had not yet distributed them.

The police confiscated chemical substances including TNT, RDX, and HMTD from Rio's home laboratory.

According to the National Police's laboratory, such materials could cause explosions two to three times more powerful than those seen in the Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005.

Rio made the materials using funds collected from Indonesian migrant workers employed in Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, the police claimed. (jun)
