Workers at an office of state-owned electricity company PLN in Jakarta have collected money to buy snacks, water and meals for thousands of protesters.
orkers at an office of state-owned electricity company PLN located near the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta, where today's anti-Ahok rally is being focused, have raised money to support the protestors.
Sujono, assistant manager of general and facilities division, said that the initiative came about spontaneously after learning that around 500 PLN workers from many cities outside Jakarta planned to come to the capital to join the rally.
"We have managed to raise Rp 60 million (US$4,444) in the last two days from everyone in the company, ranging from directors to security guards," he said, adding that the central PLN office also channeled an additional Rp 60 million for the initiative.
The money was used to buy thousands of packages of snacks, bottled water and meals and anyone taking part in the rally was free to avail of them, added Sujono, who wore Muslim attire. (fac/yan)
