Death toll in Aceh earthquake rises to 18

idie Jaya deputy regent Said Mulyadi says as quoted by tribunnews.com at least 18 people have died in his regency in Aceh due to an earthquake that hit the area at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was 18 kilometers northeast of Pidie Jaya. The BMKG said the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat.

Dozens of buildings in Pidie Jaya regency collapsed due to the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale. (evi)
