he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will question House of Representatives (DPR) speaker and Golkar Party chairman Setya Novanto as a witness in a case centering on alleged irregularities in an electronic identification card (e-KTP) procurement project.
KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the antigraft body had scheduled the questioning for next week.
"The KPK has sent a letter summoning Setya Novanto in the e-KTP case. Investigators will seek clarification on several matters to deepen their investigation into the case," he said Friday.
Last month, KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo said the body would focus on the possible involvement of lawmakers in the suspected crime, particularly to discover if bribery had taken place during the House budgeting processes.
The KPK has named two suspects: the Home Affairs Ministry’s former director general for population and civil registration, Irman, and the former population administration information management director for the directorate general, Sugiharto.
Agus has repeatedly said that new suspects could be named in the case, as state losses were estimated to have reached around Rp 2.3 trillion (US$175 million) in the Rp 6 trillion project launched in 2010.
Previously, former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, a witness in the case, claimed that many high-ranking officials were implicated in the graft case, including Setya Novanto.
The KPK has summonsed some high-ranking officials as witnesses, including former House member Jafar Hafsah of the Democratic Party and Chairuman Harahap, former chairman of House Commission II overseeing home affairs. (fac/yan)
