ational flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has fulfilled its commitment to fully support the country’s soccer team, which will face Thailand in the second leg of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup final in Bangkok on Saturday.
Garuda Indonesia vice president of corporate communications Benny S. Butarbutar said his company provided all the players and officials of the national team with Jakarta-Bangkok return tickets free of charge.
“We hope our support can improve the spirit of the Indonesian national team to win the match,” Benny said while watching the team depart Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday.
In the first leg at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday, Indonesia beat Thailand 2-1.
Besides giving away free tickets, he said Garuda would expand its flight capacity for its Jakarta-Bangkok route on Saturday by using the larger Airbus 330-300 aircraft (287 passengers) instead of the usual Boeing 737-800 (162 passengers).
“The expansion in capacity is aimed at accommodating Indonesian supporters wanting to support our team [in Bangkok],” he said in a statement.(jun)
