resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to immediately channel aid allocated for the victims of a 6.5-magnitude earthquake that struck Pidie Jaya regency, Aceh, last week.

During his second visit to the affected area, Jokowi said that quick distribution of aid was desperately needed to restore the area, and thus aid distribution to reconstruct buildings should be conducted concurrently with data verification.

“Financial assistance must be immediately channeled, so that residents can use it and their lives can be restored […],” Jokowi said on Thursday.

Jokowi added that he would pay close attention to the progress of the restoration process.

“The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has started rebuilding the mosque and the college as ordered by the President,” Willem said.

Wilem added that the Social Affairs Ministry had provided 96 heirs of the total 103 deceased victims with financial assistance, while still identifying the other seven victims (fac/jun)
