ith the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching, nearly 7,000 bus passengers already had departed the new Pulo Gebang bus station in East Jakarta to their hometowns and villages from between Dec. 15 to 19.
"We saw an outflow last Thursday, or 10 days before Christmas, of 1,223 home-bound passengers traveling on 109 buses," Pulo Gebang bus station departure coordinator Amwar Manshur was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com on Tuesday.
Anwar added that the number of passengers reached 1,637 using 131 buses on Sunday.
"On Monday, the number of passengers declined to 1,173 using 93 buses," he said.
The station expects the outflow to reach its peak on Thursday and Friday.
One of the travelers, Eko Yulianto, 32, said he was traveling with his wife and child to spend the holidays in his hometown in Pekalongan, Central Java.
"We want to enjoy our holiday in our kampung and gather with our extended family," he said. (dmr)
