he campaign team of Jakarta incumbent candidate pair Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat has reported seven Jakarta administration officials to the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) over their alleged unneutrality in the election.
Lambok Gurning, a member of the Ahok-Djarot campaign team’s legal and advocacy division, said it was suspected that seven heads of agencies in the Jakarta administration were ready for candidate pair Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni to win.
“We read in reports that the Jakarta chapter of the National Awakening Party executive board’s [DPW PKB] deputy secretary stated seven agency heads were ready to support Agus-Sylviana. We have printed the news articles and submitted a report to Bawaslu,” said Lambok, as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.
He said the report was submitted to Bawaslu on Friday. Civil servants in the Jakarta administration have personal rights to support any gubernatorial candidate pair. However, they are not allowed to get involved in campaign activities of the candidates they support, he said.
Lambok said what had been conveyed by DPW PKB Jakarta deputy secretary Ahmad Muslim clearly showed the agency heads’ bias.
Lambok referred to Ahmad’s earlier statement about the meeting between the seven officials and DPW PKB Jakarta chairman Hasbiallah Ilyas.
“There are seven heads of agencies in the Jakarta administration that have met with the DPW PKB Jakarta chairman [to convey their readiness] for Agus-Sylviana to win,” said Ahmad.
Lambok said it was clear that the officials had actively supported Agus-Sylviana. He could not yet provide further details but hoped details would be revealed after the submission of his report to Bawaslu. (ebf)
