A

member of the Army’s Special Forces (Kopassus), First Sgt. Danang Kusuma Wardani, died in a parachute jump on Tuesday morning after he landed in the sea.

After being reported missing on Tuesday, the Central Java National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) found his body on Wednesday morning at Cipta Beach in Semarang, Central Java.

Danang was taking part in a parachute exercise with 10 fellow soldiers. Riding in an Army MI 17 helicopter, the team jumped at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday. By 8 a.m., nine soldiers had safely landed at Marina Beach. Two others, Danang and Second Sgt. Benny Buana Yuda, failed to show up.

Central Java Basarnas head Agus Haryono said his office received a report of two soldiers landing in the sea after strong wind and bad weather blew their parachutes off course. The agency immediately conducted a search with Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, Central Java Water Police and Tanjung Emas fishermen.

Benny was rescued at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Danang’s body was taken to the Wiratamtama Army Hospital in Semarang, Agus said. (rin)
