Ahmad said that Bekasi's residents only needed to implement various “simple activities”, including conservation in downstream areas and increasing water absorption zones, to tackle flooding.
“You don’t need to build a large reservoir in the upstream area. Simple activities will be useful [to handle floods] if they are done optimally,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.co.id.
He said downstream conservation would absorb water flowing to downstream areas.

Besides, high intensity local rain, overflowing rivers that were tributaries from Bogor, West Java, caused floods in Bekasi.
The Bekasi River, Cikeas River, Cileungsi River and Cakung River, which connect to Sentul in Bogor, were the major reason for flooding. (idb/dan)
