opper producer PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara has confirmed that it received a permit last Friday that will allow it to continue exporting copper concentrates for the next year.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry issued a permit that allows Amman Mineral to export 675,000 wet metric tons of copper concentrate until next February.

Amman Mineral president director Rachmat Makkasau confirmed that the firm had received the permit and expressed his appreciation to the government for allowing the firm to continue exporting the concentrates from its Batu Hijau mine in West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara.

“AMNT [Amman Mineral] will immediately start exporting and continue normal mining operations at Batu Hijau,” he said in a statement received by The Jakarta Post on Friday.

“We hope to continue working together with the government to reach the same goal, which is to continue the smooth operation and consistent value of AMNT’s mines as support for the country’s long term economic development, which we have already expressed to the central and provincial government. We especially [hope] for the government’s support to facilitate investments in the future.”

The government recently issued a regulation that allowed the continued exports of copper concentrates so long as firms working under a contract of work (CoW) convert to a special mining permit (IUPK).

Once the firm has converted, the government will issue an export permit for one year at a time, and will review the permit once every six months in order to evaluate the firm’s progress on smelter construction.  (bbn)
