esidents of Pulau Kelapa in Thousand Islands regency are demanding that the city administration provide them with a sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) facility to fulfill their needs for clean water.

Pulau Kelapa subdistrict head Fadli said on Wednesday that the Jakarta Industry and Energy Agency had provided them with a clean water treatment facility called reverse osmosis (RO) with fresh water as its raw material.

“However, RO only produces 6,200 liters of clean water and our population is 6,500 people,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Fadli said the volume was far from adequate to fulfill the needs of the island’s residents.

He said the material of the RO was fresh water that was limited to the island and deteriorated during the dry season.

“Meanwhile, an SWRO can have more capacity as sea water is abundant,” he said. (cor)
