View all search resultsore than 800 children in Tangerang, Banten province, are being prevented from going to school each day because of a lack of funds, an official said.
An official with Tangerang's Education Agency, Abduh Surahman, said on Thursday that the city had established a task force to be in charge of making a list of school-aged children who were unable to go to classes because of having no money.
"We have made a list of unschooled children that totals 800 people and it would possibly increase," Abduh said, adding that most of them drop out in junior and senior high school.

Regarding the situation, he said, the administration planned to cover all tuition fees of the children so that they can continue their studies for free. He also said that the officials would start registering the dropped-out children to enroll them in the schools nearest their homes. (dan)
