View all search resultseveral areas in Jakarta have faced flooding after heavy rain on Tuesday evening caused the Ciliwung River to burst its banks in some areas.
Seven districts and eight subdistricts in South Jakarta and East Jakarta have been affected by floods, with the water level between 10 to 100 centimeters high, the Jakarta Natural Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated on Wednesday.
The highest level of the floods were in several areas in Cawang and Cililitan, East Jakarta, with 100-cm-high waters.
The flooding was caused by the overflow of several sections of the Ciliwung River, according to the BPBD’s Twitter account.
Floodwater once again inundated Bukit Duri in South Jakarta, despite the administration’s efforts to normalize the river.
According to the BPBD, four sluice gates around Jakarta – Karet, Krukut Hulu, Angke Hulu and Pasar Ikan – have been activated due to the rising water level.
Meanwhile, water at the Katulampa floodgate in Bogor, West Java, is still at a safe level, says the BPBD.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has forecast light rain in Greater Jakarta starting from midday on Wednesday. (dea)
