Police are investigating nine alleged Islamic State (IS) militants, including two juveniles, arrested in Central Sulawesi on March 10, to determine whether they are linked to the Iraq and Syria-based terror group.

olice are investigating nine alleged Islamic State (IS) militants, including two juveniles, arrested in Central Sulawesi on March 10, to determine whether they are linked to the Iraq and Syria-based terror group. 

National Police spokesperson Insp Gen Boy Rafli Amar said on Monday that police arrested the nine in relation to an alleged plan to attack the Parigi Moutong Police, Tolitoli Police headquarters and  Tolitoli Military Command.

"Police have yet to determine whether they are involved in terrorist networks, Boy told reporters.

According to police, the arrests were made following surveillance of suspected terrorist movements.

Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig Gen Rudy Sufahriyadi said earlier they were part of an IS-linked group, however were not connected  to Santoso's terrorist network in Poso.  (dis/dan)
