he South Jakarta Transportation Agency impounded 771 vehicles and collected Rp 385.5 million (US$29,000) in parking fines from January to March.
“Illegal parking causes traffic jams, and towing away those vehicles is a way to resolve the problem,” agency head Christianto said on Tuesday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Referring to regional regulation No. 3/2012 on regional fees, a parking ticket costs Rp 500,000 (US$37.55) and increases if a vehicle owner does not pay the fine immediately.
Last year, South Jakarta impounded 3,175 vehicles and collected Rp 1.6 billion parking fines.
