uilding material company Impact Pratama, in cooperation with international high-tech polymer manufacturer Covesto, launched on Friday post-harvest drying equipment for farmers and fishermen in Indonesia.
The equipment, called Solar Dryer Domes, can help farmers dry their agricultural and fisheries products more quickly and hygienically, said Impact Pratama polycarbonate division head Sugiarto Romel.
“The equipment can increase the productivity of farmers and fishermen by 40 percent, compared to using traditional drying methods,” Sugiarto said after signing the inclusive business agreement with Covesto in Jakarta, adding that the “roadside drying method” could cause losses of between 30 and 50 percent.
The temperature inside the polycarbonate-sheet clad domes can be 200 percent higher than outside, he said.
The company expects to install at least 50 domes in Indonesia by the end of 2017, 40 percent of which will be installed in Java, Sugiarto said.
All the domes are being manufactured at its factory in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.
Sugianto said one dome could be utilized by 20 farmers and fishermen in one community. He explained that the dome would be sold directly to farmers and fishermen or to institutions, which will help farmers and fishermen.
The equipment will also be launched in the Philippines. Previously, it has been launched in Thailand and Vietnam. (yon/bbn)
