T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned former House of Representatives member and Hanura Party politician Miryam S. Haryani on allegations of perjury on Thursday.

“The suspect was questioned in regard to her acts, in which false statements were allegedly given in the trial of graft defendants Irman and Sugiharto,” said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah, referring to two high-ranking Home Ministry officials implicated in the case.

On April 5, the KPK named Miryam a suspect for allegedly providing a false statement in a hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on March 23, during which she claimed she was intimidated by KPK investigators into making the statement.

According to case investigation documents, Miryam stated that she distributed a portion of the Rp 5.9 trillion (US$440 million) project funds to several House lawmakers.

During a hearing on March 23, Miryam testified before the court’s judge panel. In a testimony contradicting the statement she previously conveyed to KPK investigators, Miryam said a portion of the funds was never distributed to the lawmakers.

Miryam was later questioned by three KPK investigators, namely Ambarita Damanik, Novel Baswedan, and M. Irwan Santoso, in a hearing on March 30, during which the lawmaker stood by her statements from the previous hearing. (ebf)
