P

resumptive governor-elect Anies Baswedan moved quickly and met Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama on Thursday to make sure the transition of power would run smoothly.

Anies arrived at City Hall at about 7 a.m., while Ahok had earlier arrived to meet several residents and hear their problems.

“We have made an appointment to meet at City Hall, just quickly, just a meeting on how to arrange the transition,” Anies was quoted by kompas.com as saying.

Upon seeing Anies, Ahok interrupted his meeting with residents and approached the presumed winner of the election (a presumption based on unofficial quick counts). The two shook hands.

n the short meeting, both gubernatorial candidates highlighted the need to discuss local funding (APBD) for 2018.

Anies said an early discussion over the APBD was needed because it would be too late to discuss it when he officially became governor in October.

"If we do not discuss it now, I am afraid the programs we have vowed to conduct in 2018 would be postponed until 2019 because the 2018 APBD would already have been arranged," Anies told reporters.

After meeting with Anies, Ahok immediately went to court in Ragunan, South Jakarta, to hear the sentence the prosecutors were demanding be given to him if he is found guilty of blasphemy. (jun)
