he Jakarta administration will set up staple food bazaars in 70 locations throughout the city in a bid to control food prices during the fasting month of Ramadhan and ensure the availability of food stocks. Ramadhan is scheduled to begin on May 26 this year.
“The bazaars will provide rice, beef and chicken, cooking oil, chili, onion and other strategic foodstuffs,” said Jakarta Economic Affairs Bureau head Sri Haryati on Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
She added that the bazaars would be held in the city’s subdistricts.
The stocks will be supplied by city-owned slaughterhouse company PD Dharma Jaya, market operator PD Pasar Jaya and food security company Tjipinang Jaya Food Station.
The city administration has prepared up to 25,000 tons of rice, 1,000 tons of sugar and 1 million liters of cooking oil. For meat, PD Dharma Jaya has prepared 500 tons of beefs.
The administration will also monitor traditional and modern markets to prevent the sale of food containing hazardous chemicals. (wnd)
