he Jakarta Police are set to secure another rally being planned by the National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Ulema Council’s Fatwa (GNPF-MUI) to demand the maximum sentence for Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama over his blasphemy charges.
The rally will be held on Friday, with some 5,000 to 10,000 people expected to participate, said Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono on Wednesday.

“We will deploy more than 15,000 police personnel to safeguard the rally,” Argo said, adding that they would add more personnel should intelligence suggest they were needed.
“The GNPF-MUI has sent a letter of notification about the rally,” he said. “After holding Friday prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta, they will proceed to march to the Supreme Court building about one kilometer away from the mosque.”
Argo expected that the upcoming rally would remain peaceful. (dea)
