lmost half of the people living in Greater Jakarta – Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi -- still dream of owning a house in Jakarta despite the daily traffic congestion they would have to contend with, a study shows.

The survey, conducted by online housing portal Rumah123, shows that 42.46 percent of respondents want to live in the capital rather than in its satellite cities.

Tangerang in Banten is the second preference, with 22.46 percent of respondents interested in owning a house there, followed by the West Java cities of by Bogor with 12.01 percent, Depok with 11.76 percent and Bekasi with 11.31 percent.

Rumah123’s country general manager, Ignatius Untung, said a lack of quality housing complexes in Bekasi led to a reluctance to live there.

“Compared to Tangerang, Bekasi has fewer housings developed by prominent developers,” Untung said, adding that traffic congestion was another reason people did not prefer Bekasi.

“None of the respondents who live in Depok intend to buy property in Bekasi,” he announced at a media briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The survey, called “Sentiment Survey,” was held from March 15 to April 5 and had 4,134 respondents who mostly live in Greater Jakarta. (ecn/bbn)
